Getting the Shot....
I am learning that underwater photography requires patience, perseverance and occasionally pursuit. This effort was an attempt to capture a large balloonfish as it swam away.

Bonaire Surf...
The force of the Caribbean sea is evident at Boka Chikiti on Bonaire's Northwest corner. Unlike the diver friendly leeward side of the island, Bonaire's other shoreline has a much more treacherous beauty. This photo was taken inside the National Park.

Donkey decendants from Bonaire's argicultural past have become free and wild animals. The Donkey Sanctuary in Bonaire has been rescuing this population from explotation and starvation.

Bonaire Slave Huts...
Prior to the invention of SCUBA, Bonaire's main industry was the production of sea salt. In the dark days of slavery men and women were forced to work as saltrakers in the salt evaporation pans of Bonaire's south shore. During the "harvest season" slaves were housed in these structures along the south beach after a long march from the town of Rincon. Today these structures are restored and maintained by the local parks department. The slave huts are a "must see" destination for all tourists to the island.

The Slave huts of Bonaire have become an icon of sorts. These buildings have been carefully restored and are now a common tourist stop on island tours. This particular tourist has been "framed".

Boka Kokolishi...
Bokas are cove-like cuts in the ironshore where thunderous wind driven ocean waves make their dramatic landfall. There are several Bokas in Bonaire's National Park where the sound of crashing waves is impressive. Near Kokolishis is a "blow hole" where the sound of water pressure through an opening in the shore is deafening.

Boka Slagbaai, Wahington Slagbaai National Park...
Bonaire's Washington Slagbaai National Park is the first nature preserve in the Neatherland Antilles. This harsh and pristine land is the highest elevation on the island and was once part of the Herrera brothers ranch. In Boka Slagbaai original ranch buildings have been renovated, here a waterside outbuilding overlooks a nearby cliffside.

The windward side of Bonaire is a harsh moonscape of thundering surf and raw ocean power with a unique beauty to be seen and heard.

LaDonya's Leap...
Typical of Bonaire's North side dive sites, LaDonya's Leap is a gentle drop off reef teeming with fish and lush with hard and soft corals.

Dive Boat...
Always a welcome sight at the end of a dive is the boat that will take you back to the dock! The use of anchors within Bonaire Marine Park is illegal. Permanent moorings have been established to prevent damage to the reef system due to repeated anchoring.

On Time...
The Bridgeport/Port Jefferson Ferry steams into her berth on Long Island's North Shore. With no bridge to New England the ferry can be a hassle free way to avoid the long drive through New York and West Chester County.

The Photographer...
It began as a clever Christmas gift a year ago. In the past year my wife has embraced the SLR digital process with a passion and in doing so has introduced me to photoblogs, Photoshop and photo sharing. City walks are now "photo shoots", road trips are more akin to "photo safaris" and vacations are selected by their photo opportunities. Lately, we celebrate light in all it's various hues and affirm it's existence. Indeed, it has been a wonderful year seeing our world through a different lens.
