Rookies

Rookies, originally uploaded by Chris S Thorpe.
Being invited to training camp really is a very big deal. Most "rookies" will leave camp one year closer to making the "Show". Very few ballplayers make it to the majors without putting time in at the minor league level. A very high percentage of hopefuls never get to break into the minors!

Happy Wright

Spring Training is such an positive time of year. A whole season ahead, nobody is in last place and everyone's batting average is the same! As a fan, it's wonderful to get "up close and personal" with some of the players.

The MLB season is rapidly approaching the half way mark. There's plenty of media frenzy already building for next week's All Star Game. For fans, there have been plenty of surprises ( good and bad ) during the first half of the season.
This image of the Mets logo shot through a glass window is seen best in the larger view (click on the image).

Keith Hernandez?

Kieth Hernandez?, originally uploaded by Chris S Thorpe.
Two weeks into the NFL's new season and we are reminded that the MLB playoffs are less than two weeks away. Appropriate to the season, I came across this wooden sculpture in a shop window on Sag Harbor's main street. Upon a closer look it sure seemed to me as though I was staring at a likeness of former MET Keith Hernandez in a Boston uniform. Say it isn't so!... Hometown hero for sure, but where is the METS cap?
