Dockside

Okay...I did my part, detailed and sparkling, full tank of gas and ready to go! But 35 degrees and windy is not what this boater had in mind! Bring on those pleasant Spring temperatures.

Splash

When a boat first hits the water for a new season it is referred to, with tenderness, as a "Splash."
Yesterday was our splash...and if boats could smile Recess would have a huge grin. Detailed, waxed and ready to go...

Free Tibet

A rally/demonstration for Tibet was an opportunity for me to try my hand at some journalistic images. Demonstrators were very good natured and seemed eager to be photographed. Upon seeing the camera, these men adjusted the sign and faced the camera. This scene was in the plaza by the UN on a saturday morning.

Rite Of Spring

Spring cleaning for all things nautical. If the weather co-operates, this project only takes a few days. Heavy rain, high winds and temperatures in the 40's make using a hose unpleasant. Oh well, when this project is finished RECESS will be as clean as it gets until next Spring!

The Pipes Are Callin'

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY....most people I know are Irish today ( if only one day a year!), keep those eyes smiling!

North shore jetty with just a touch of green for St. Patty's Day....

March Evening

A sure sign of Spring's impending arrival is the location of the setting sun in the Western sky. For me, it is encouraging to watch as the sun sets more and more to the Northwest with each passing day. An earlier photo taken from this location in January shows the sun setting in the left portion of the frame (Southwest). The entire process begins to reverse after the summer solistice in June.

Digging in the Sand

Now, that's a serious bucket and shovel..... (best seen in larger view, click on the image)

Early Color

Like clockwork, the local farm stand always starts to push the pansies the week of St. Patty's Day. Fills my need for some sign of Spring!!

Winter's passing

Looks like I'm not the only one who wants to put winter to rest.....

With grandma

Oliver, on his grandma's shoulder, seems to be working on his problem solving skills or at least checking out his fairly new environment!

Light at the End of the Tunnel

Daylight Savings Time! Could that be light I see at the end of winter's long dark tunnel? Here on long Island the early signs of Spring are slow to appear. Daffodil greens were spotted reaching skyward in the backyard....I'm ready!!

City Flowers

With New York temperatures starting to tease that 50 degree mark, and a very early Easter on the radar...I'm ready for some real Spring flowers!

Bats of Bonaire

One last bat shot...just pure luck that the shutter caught this guy doing his Vampire routine. Night life in Bonaire has always been what you make it!

Weekend Visitor

Oliver Scott brought some of that special baby joy into our home this weekend. Amazing just how quickly goes the journey from "baby" to an individual with their own personality. Ollie soon will be a whole three month's of age and he sure seems to lovin' life!

Splash

On her way down...dive gear above the surface is clumsy, fins and weights make being graceful difficult prior to entry. It's always a relief to leave the topside chaos (other divers gearing up, etc.) and plunge into the world of a quiet and peaceful Bonarian reef. Alida's happy grin is almost visible behind that regulator!

Night Life

So what's to do after a full day of Bonaire diving and a dinner out? Not requiring elaborate entertainment, feeding and attempting to photograph the bats brought us more than a few hours of fun. Darting very quickly, these guys made for a challenging subject! The free food seemed to meet with their approval... :-) (See the additional image below)

On The Radar

...again, out of what could have been fifty or more "blind" shots this guy was captured mid-flight.
