Historic Rocky Creek Bridge... Posted by Picasa
One of two bridges that require keeping your eyes on the road along the Big Sur section of the Pacific Coast Highway.
The Party's Over... Posted by Picasa
The crowd is gone a few days after the famed Pebble Beach Pro-Am and it's a relaxed afternoon as workers disassemble the grandstands.

Get OFF MY Beach... Posted by Picasa
Male Elephant Seals are very vocal when establishing their territory. Their booming sounds are best described as badly tuned, mufflerless motorcycles.

When can we eat...??
Very Photogenic faces during an elementary school trip to the Old Mission San Juan Bautista. Great candid subjects!!

Patio Hearst...
One of several outdoor living areas at Hearst Castle in San Simeon. In all of it's splendor Hearst's Castle's best attraction is the 360 degree view of some of California's best vistas.

The Neptune Pool...
The outdoor pool, ten feet deep and impressive in it's overall size. William Randoph Hearst referred to the "Castle" as his Ranch and used it as a weekend/summer second home.

View from "The Ranch"...
Hearst took the traditional Real Estate slogan to another level. The three most important aspects of Hearst Castle are...the view, the view and the view. The hilltop estate sat among 300 square miles of Hearst owned property. 300 square miles is the equivilent of one third the state of Rhode Island, Hearst wanted to own as "far as he could see".

Over the Ridge...
The vistas looking to the East side of the Pacific Coast Highway are often upstaged by the drama of the ocean views. It always pays to look both ways!

Point Lobos Afternoon Shadows...
The several trails through California's Point Lobos Reserve provide awesome views at each turn. Here the afternoon light dances above the entrance to Whaler's Cove.

Drifters...
The Jellyfish Exhibit at the Monterey Bay Aquarium begs to be photographed, these Brown Neetles seem to pose for the camera.

San Juan and San Andreas....
Just beyond this fence that separates historic El Camino Real and the Mission San Juan Bautista, is the well known San Andreas fault. The Mission is built just feet into the more stable Pacific Plate side of the fault.

Mission San Juan Batutista, est. 1797...
Hotel California? Perhaps. The town of San Juan Bautista has maintained it's historic character and maintains the Old Mission as the town center.

Happy Valentine's day.....Wishing you many more!

Surfers are a unique group of people. Looking cool and avoiding long swims to the breakers are important. However this fairly common entry technique seems just a tad crazy!
