Recess...It's official, we had the name put on our new boat. After seeing our former boat in the river with "Recess" removed from the stern it was a "no brainer". Recess is back on the bay!
Making a Splash...(Click on image for the larger view)...This tourist speed boat gets it's passengers to scream a bit as it plows through a rather large wake on the Hudson River.
"Urban Sailors"......great weather for sailing and photography! We did the NY Waterways Harbour Tour with out of town friends the other day. A good time was had by all! Be sure to click on this image as it is best viewed in full size format.
Another glorious day comes to an end as the sunsets over the Barret Beach dock. To the perceptive eye, the setting sun is much more SouthWest in the mid-August sky than it was earlier in the season.
"The Fan Club".....A shop window in Little Italy wears it's heart on it's sleeve... Yesterday was a perfect day in the city to just meander and take photos.
The weekend weather was perfect for boating and beaching. Our niece Laura and her boyfriend Bryan came to vist and got their first glimpse of Fire Island and the Great South Bay. Click on the image for a larger view of this Friday afternoon beach scene where most members of the "crowd" are seagulls.
The sailing photographer....as much as we love our power boat, we rarely say "no" to an invitation to sail on our friend's Newport 30.
A beautiful day for a sail...We sailed from Sayville to Watch Hill with our friend Gail aboard her recently re-acquired 25 foot Catalina the other day. It was a confidence builder for the captain and proof that Gail's navigational skills are still in top form. It was an all around "10" on the perfect summer day scale.
We have had a bit of a dry spell in these "dog days of August. The effect of yesterday's showers are being appreciated by all the flowers in the garden...
Looks like Sunday....The boat traffic increases ten fold on a sunny Sunday afternoon in August on the Great South Bay.
Muffy the dingy...always following like a faithful dog. Ignored most of the time, Muffy is the star of the day when it's time to go ashore.
Now that's anchoring close to the beach...! The anchorage at Talisman (Fire Island) offers a good sandy bottom for secure anchor holding and easy access to shore.
"Red sky at night, sailor's delight..." Another glorious August sunset, perhaps the most under-appreciated show in town.
