D-Day Shuttle

Through a paratrooper's eye....The interior of a DC-3 (a.k.a. the Dakota and C47) was used extensively during the invasion of Normandy sixty-six years ago today. Paratroopers, carrying loads of over 175lbs., were dropped from very low altitude into the midst of German occupied France. This view would be over the pilot's shoulder after the last brave soul stepped out the opening in the far rear of the aircraft. The rest, as they say, is history.
The DC-3/C47 was the aircraft of choice during the "Berlin Airlift" providing a much needed lifeline during the Russian occupation following WWII.
This particular aircraft still flies today and can be seen at Long Island's "American Airpower Museum" at Republic airport.
